Back pain can be especially hard because it disrupts all areas of your life. We don’t realize just how much we use our back until it is injured. Back injuries that cause pain can take time and tests to diagnose. The best way to treat the cause and not just the pain is to visit a chiropractic center. At Southwest Chiropractic, we are dedicated to providing lasting relief. While this article should not serve as a diagnosis, we do have insight on a few common causes of back pain.
Muscle or Ligament Strain Lifting a heavy object or a sudden awkward movement can cause a muscle or ligament strain. If you are not used to conducting manual labor, then help a friend move heavy furniture out of the blue, you could end up with an injury. This can also happen due to a fall or trip that causes a sudden jerk or awkward movement. Constant strain on the back can cause problems as well. Bulging or Ruptured Discs The disks between the vertebrae in the spine act as cushions. This is soft material between the bone that acts as a type of shock absorbent. This material can bulge or even rupture. This can then cause problems with the nerves. The experience can be extremely painful, while other people have very few symptoms. Bone Issues Can Cause Back Pain There are several bone issues that can cause pain in all areas of the back. Arthritis is one of the most common bone problems that affects the lower back. Arthritis can even cause spinal stenosis. This is when the space around the spinal cord narrows. Skeletal irregularities can lead to pain as well. Scoliosis is one of the most common problems and it can happen in varying degrees. Back pain can also be an indication of osteoporosis. This is a condition that happens with the bones become porous and brittle. When the vertebrae in the spine develop osteoporosis compression fractures can happen.
